Social Studies Current Event Blog- National News

On January 20, 2009 the inauguration of President Obama took place. To most people, it was an exciting and unforgettable moment in history. A lot of people went to Washington to witness history in the making. As it stands now, Barack Obama is now our 44Th president in the United States.

As onlookers took in the sight of Obama during the inauguration several thoughts crossed their minds. For example, "It's the first time in my life I've ever had someone to look up to. I'm a mixed, multi-ethnic, multinational person, and I've never had someone I could look up to politically and say, 'That's somebody who can represent me. That's somebody who I can relate to. That's somebody that my family can relate to,' and the fact that he actually made it into office is just ... it gives me hope that I can do whatever I want to do in my life and not have a glass ceiling above me," as expressed by one of the onlookers. People witnessing the inauguration had felt a deep connection with our 44Th president. The onlookers really look up to him as he now represents our nation. In my opinion, I think that Obama is a perfect choice for president and i think that he will do a great job as president.

"Our nation is at war, against a far reaching network of violence and hatred," Obama said. "Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age."said our new President at his inauguration. My analysis: the inauguration of Barack Obama was a significant event in history because he is the first African-American president in history. In my opinion, I think that it was a great idea for people to vote for Barack Obama because I believe that maybe the problems we are having trouble with now might be impacted by this change in history. However, I am still not quite sure if people wanted to vote for Obama or if the people just want a democratic president after having a republican for eight years?
